one drive sync issue

Hi,

my one drive account has started to sync with my local drive.

there isn't enough local space to allow this.

I can't "de-select" folders to sync until it has completed the sync - which it can't because of the space issue.

how do i select what to sync from the web app before i run the desktop app?

    Dear Duncan Hartley,

    Good day!!

As per the description shared, I understand your concern and to my knowledge, I would like to convey that currently we can only deselect the unwanted folders from syncing to the File Explorer after the OneDrive has been setup completely and it’s not possible to sync only the selected folders before the setup was complete.

I agree with you on having the ability to sync only the selected folders in your OneDrive for Business before the complete setup will benefit the users and I suggest you to add your valuable ideas as feedback in the OneDrive · Community which is the best place to share our ideas and improve the Microsoft products.

As a workaround, you can create a SharePoint Online site and copy the required folders to newly created SharePoint Online site for syncing only the required data:

Step 1: Open your browser and access https://portal.office.com > Enter your Office 365 account details> Click on the 9 dots at the top left> Click on SharePoint> + Create Site> Fill the details as per your requirement.

Step 2: Go to the Documents in the left navigation bar> + New> Folder> Give a name and click on Create> Right-click on the folder created> Add shortcut to OneDrive.

Step 3: Go to your OneDrive for Business> Select the folders you want to sync to your device> Click on Copy to> My files> Click on the shortcut folder> Copy here> Go back to My Files> Select the shortcut folder and click on Remove.

Step 4: Now go to SharePoint Online site> Go to Documents> Click on the Sync.

If you are using Microsoft Personal account ( ******@outlook.com ), please post back to us so that we will guide you with the alternate workaround.

Appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia
