OneNote vs Loop

As I work with both products I'm wondering if Microsoft has provided any insight into the future of both products.

While we see that loop components are getting added to OneNote it also appears as if the Loop app has near feature parity with OneNote and adds the ability to share specific documents with other.

I'm considering if I want to migrate away from OneNote toward the Loop but have a hard time believing that MS will keep both products with such similarity around in the long term.

    Hi The_Marc_Rohde,

Thanks for posting in the community. We are happy to help you.

Regarding your query, OneNote and Loop are two different services/apps with different features. As you mentioned, some of their features are close. Since you're considering migrating content from OneNote to Loop, I'd like to share with you some existing limitations regarding Microsoft Loop.

    1. Currently, Microsoft Loop doesn't support external sharing for guests or external users.

    2. Currently, Loop workspace owners can't assign new members as owners. If the owner leaves the company, the workspace becomes ownerless, remain in the tenant, and isn't automatically deleted. Administrators can't assign new owners to ownerless workspaces.

    1. Currently, Microsoft Loop doesn't support duplicating pages with its subpages, duplicating templates across workspaces, and duplicating entire workspaces.

    For your reference:

Since Microsoft Loop is a relatively new tool, it's providing powerful integrations, but it may lack some of the robust features or integrations that OneNote currently offers, especially if you rely heavily on specific features. I would recommend that you use Loop for a while and then consider whether or not to "migrate".

We hope you find the above information helpful.

    Sincerely,

Wait... so "Microsoft Loop... is providing powerful integrations" BUT

    • It doesn't support external sharing for guests or external users
    • owners can't assign new members as owners
    • Administrators can't assign new owners to owners who have left the company
    • Loop doesn't support duplicating pages, templates and workspaces.

HOW does this count as "providing powerful integrations"???

Does anyone know how OneNote, OneDrive, Loop, Teams and SharePoint are supposed to work together? Not to mention how Office365's built-in collaboration tools fit into this whole ecosystem? Do we really need yet another Microsoft "integrating" product?
