Issue with Editing Metadata for Multiple Documents in SharePoint – Fields Locked Except for One

Hello,

We’ve encountered an issue in SharePoint where users are unable to edit metadata for multiple documents simultaneously. After selecting more than one document and clicking the "Properties" button, all metadata fields become locked except for one field, which remains editable. I’ve replicated the issue on my end and found the same behavior. However, users are still able to edit metadata when selecting documents one at a time.

As a temporary workaround, using the “Edit in grid view” option can speed up the process but it's not ideal.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or found a solution to unlock fields in the properties panel for multiple documents? I’d appreciate any insights on this.

Thanks!

    Hi Karolinv,

Greetings. Thank you for posting the thread to our community.

I understand your concern, it seems you cannot edit metadata for multiple documents in SharePoint. For the situation you’ve encountered, I do understand the inconvenience caused and feel very sorry about it.

After my test, I’m afraid and sorry to say that this issue isn’t happening on my side which I select multiple items and click Properties to edit their metadata. Here is my test result:

In that case, to have a better understanding and identify the root cause of your issue, May I confirm the following information with you?

    1. May I confirm items in your SharePoint document library/list is over 5000 items (include folders, documents, etc.)?
    2. Could you please provide me a screenshot of the issued Edit menu on your side?
    3. May I confirm whether the issue persists if you try to change other browsers or not?

Appreciate your understanding that sometimes the initial reply may not resolve the situation very soon. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. Please kindly provide the requested information so that I can work further.

Hope you having a nice day.

    Sincerely,
