This morning when I booted my computer, a window popped up saying do you want OneDrive to make copies of your images, I said no, the window would not go away, I finally said yes, click a few things and thought that was the end of it. What happened was it duplicated everything I had on my desktop, including what I had stored in folders on my desktop, in some cases it made four copies of the same photo. It also made duplicates of text files. So I had to go through every folder on my desktop and delete copies of photos and text files. Looking through the folder in OneDrive, nothing had changed.

    Hello. MarkShelton_888

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.

This may be due to automatic synchronization of OneDrive.

We recommend that you follow the steps below:

    1. stop backing up OneDrive's desktop folder, click OneDrive cloud icon in desktop taskbar -> Settings (gear icon) -> Sync & Backup -> Manage Backups -> Uncheck the Backup desktop folder option to stop backup.
    2. Then clean up the duplicate files on your desktop, double-check each folder on your desktop and delete the duplicate files and folders caused by OneDrive synchronization.
    3. Meanwhile, if the computer name is displayed in the file name of the OneDrive file, then you need to refresh the credentials.
    • In Windows, select “Start”, type “Credentials”, and select “Credential Manager”.
    • Select the “Windows Credentials” tab.
    • Under “General Credentials”, look for any entries that contain “OneDrive Cache Credentials” and delete them.
    • Restart OneDrive.

If the same issue still occurs after following the steps above, you may want to try resetting your OneDrive.

    Please try resetting your OneDrive:
(Before resetting OneDrive, please ensure that your files have been successfully synchronized or backed up in case the reset affects your files)
