Correct way to digitally sign drivers of windows 7/8

Previously I used to sign all my drivers of windows 7/8 using signtool.exe along with pfx file and a cross certificate for the root.

Now the cross certificate is expired and I came to know that the cross certificate support is removed by Microsoft.

What is the right way to sign the drivers of windows 7/8 now ?
