I have a huge data set, I was trying to sort by date but because of the format it was sorting by month first then day then year.
So I switched the format to the standard format of yyyy-mm-dd but the tables column doesnt update. I have to select the text in each cell and manually press enter to get the format to update but theres far to many to do this manually.

How can I force the format to update?

Select the column.
On the Home tab of the ribbon, click Text to Columns.
Select Delimited, then twice click Next >.
Select MDY from the dropdown next to Date.
Click Finish.
