Restore OneDrive Default Folder Structure

I have a user that has their OneDrive file structure as:

.

├── OneDrive

├── Documents/

│ └── Desktop

└── Pictures

I'm inclined to think that the issue can be resolved by dragging the 'Desktop' folder back to their OneDrive folder, however, the user swears that they did not move the folder so I wanted to make sure that there isn't an underlying issue with OneDrive before I did so. Figured it was worth asking in case I'm about to do something that could take a lot of time to resolve.

I also have a couple questions:

  • Will dragging it back update the user's sharepoint as well, or will the sharepoint restore the structure on syncing again?
  • Will the links to the Desktop folder continue to work after moving this?

    Dear Kelley_IC,

Good days, thanks for querying in this forum. We’re happy to help you.

"When you drag a file back in SharePoint, it will also affect the SharePoint structure. However, there is a risk when it comes to linking the desktop folder. Therefore, before doing this, I suggest stopping the backup of the desktop folder."

You can access OneDrive settings to back up, manage, and uncheck the desktop folder.

After stopping the desktop backup folder, you can move the files to the first level after that please re-enable the backup. This way we can make sure the connection with the desktop folder will not lost after the files moving.

This should help address the issue without causing further complications!

thank you for your time and patience, we hope you have a nice day!

    Sincerely
