Microsoft Project Corrupt

Microsoft Project: I understand the Gant chart defaults to resource name as the label. In theory, a user should be able to double click in the "white" area of the Gant chart and change the resource name to "name" and then the task titles should appear. This function is not working. I have also tried "format", "bar styles", "text", and changed from "resource names" to "name". This function does not work. The program requires me to adjust each individual task by double clicking the task in the Gant chart and changing from resource name to "name". This is very frustrating and time consuming. I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled with no luck. I believe our global download is corrupt. How does our organization get a non-corrupt version of MS Project?

I figured it out. Once the task is mode is set to "Auto Schedule", the problem is corrected. The task mode was set as "manual" when I was experiencing the problem.

This problem occurs with all files of Project.

    DDDD01255,

Sorry I can't be of more help. I only have a standalone desktop version of Project and you have a subscription version so I don't know how the Project Global is set up. I'll have to defer to others.

But one other question? Does this only occur with a particular Project file (i.e. if you create a new file, do you see the same issue)?

    John

Using Microsoft M365 Apps Project v3, revision 4

Although appreciated, the first two suggestions did not work. As for the third suggestion. I have been unable to find the working global. I searched the C:Drive but nothing.

    DDDD01255,

First of all, which version of Project are you using?

It sounds like you are only able to individually set bar text and not globally via the Bar Styles window. Try this.

    1. Select the whole file (click in the upper left corner)
    2. Go to, Gantt Chart Format > Bar Styles group > Format > Bar to bring up the Format Bar window
    3. Select the Bar Text tab
    4. Hit the Reset button

    Does that help?

If not, you may have a corrupt Gantt Chart view or a corrupt Global. Try this.

    1. Select any view other than the Gantt Chart view
    2. Go to, File > Info > Organize Global template
    3. You should see Gantt Chart as one of the views items in the right hand selection box
    4. Select the Gantt Chart selection and then hit the "Delete" button
    5. Close and then select the Gantt Chart view

    Does that help?

If not, quit Project and then find the working Global for you installation of Project. For example mine is located at: C:\Users\JohnPC\App Data\Roaming\Microsoft/MS Project\16\en-US. Move it to the trash. Restart Project. Does that help?

    John
