Unable to edit documents in shared folder

My fiance and I are sharing a Microsoft 365 plan - I am the admin of it and I gave him access to it. On his iPad, he is able to edit documents using Word and Excel in his personal OneDrive space. I am able to do the same in mine.

I created a shared folder and gave him edit access to it. He is able to create and rename documents in that folder, but Word and Excel tell him that he cannot edit anything - even documents he creates. I cannot find a setting to make this work.

    Hello, Alalea

    Thanks for your reply.

In individual user posts, they described a similar situation: they could edit files in their own OneDrive folders but not in shared folders. This situation is indeed related to specific accounts.

As I mentioned in my previous reply, you can let your fiancé create a new Microsoft account and test if he can edit documents in the shared folder with the new account. This will confirm whether it is an issue with his OneDrive account.

Due to the limitations of this forum, we are not authorized to handle issues related to specific accounts. If it is indeed an issue with his account, I sincerely recommend that you contact OneDrive Support.

    It is on an iPad.

It is not specific to one folder - I have multiple shared folders that he cannot edit.

I highly doubt this is an account problem, since his account is able to edit documents in his OneDrive folders; the problem is just in these shared folders.

Thanks for your help - I will pursue with support.

    Hello, Alalea

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I realize that your fiancé have encountered a problem with editing documents in a folder shared by you. I understand how you feel.

I noticed that you posted in the iPhone or iPad section. Does this issue occur when your fiancé is editing documents in OneDrive app on iPhone or iPad?

Please ask him to try logging into OneDrive.com in a browser. Can he edit files in the shared folder on the web page?

Please create a new folder and share it with your fiancé. Will he have the same issue in the new folder?

It might be a problem with a specific folder.

If it's convenient, please have your fiancé create a new Microsoft account. Then you share a folder with this new account.

Can he edit documents in the shared folder with the new account?

There might be an issue with his OneDrive account.

If it is indeed an account issue, I sincerely recommend that you contact OneDrive Support.

To contact them: Log in to OneDrive.com with his account, then click on this link: Email OneDrive Support

I hope my reply will help you. Feel free to post back if you need further assistance.

    Best wishes,
