I have data in B1 thru B10, and want to label the y-axis (perpendicular to the data). But if I put the label in A10 and rotate it up, it doesn't fill the empty space in A1 thru A9 (the way overflow normally would, into empty space), and instead extends cell A10 disjointedly. Is there any way to accomplish this labeling?

It probably also depends on your display settings. On my PC, 1 pixel corresponds to 0.75 points, so I can set row height to 10,5 pt, 11.25 pt, 12 pt etc., but not to 11.5 pt or 11.75 pt.
It seems to me that, for a spreadsheet at default Calibri 11, the most I can reduce row height (without cutting off text) is to 11.75. That is, 11.5 is too short (cuts off some ascenders), and 11.75 doesn't cut anything off. Am I right in this, & is this something generally known about a default sheet?
Thank you.
Enter the label in A1 instead of in A10, then merge A1:A10.
You can use the vertical alignment of the merged cells to position the label at the top,in the middle or at the bottom.
