Cannot access admin account... because code from authenticator required... and a code required to reinstall authenticator!

Can someone help, please. I've raised a support request with Microsoft but they just keep sending me self-help articles that don't address my problem.

In brief I am trying to close down an account. To do this I need to get into my admin account. I used to have authenticator installed and one day it started generating 8 numbers instead of 6 (I've reviewed the other articles about this). I uninstalled authenticator and tried to reinstall... but each time the authenticator app requires me to enter a code displayed on the authenticator app!

I've been requested M'soft help for more than 3 weeks now. Because my old account (that I'm trying to shut down) has also expired it has now prevented me from opening outlook... where I have live (with license) accounts.

M'soft claims it has been trying to contact me (but hasn't) and refers me to the Hong Kong service line. That is only in Chinese... so doesn't help.

Thanks.
