Access Database Query Execution Slowed Down After Office Repair

Hello,

I’m reaching out to the community for advice regarding a performance issue with a program that accesses and retrieves data from a Microsoft Access database. This process reads data from the Access DB and subsequently loads it into an Oracle database. It has been running without issues for a while, but after performing an Office Quick Repair (to address a different Office library problem), the execution time of the process has roughly doubled. The outputs and functionality remain correct, but the speed is now significantly slower.

Kindly share your insights on the potential impacts of the Office Quick Repair.
Thank you for your help and suggestions!

    Hi,

Thank you for your insights and suggestions! We were able to identify and resolve the performance issue. After performing the Office Quick Repair, we discovered that the active ODBC/OLEDB drivers had been switched to Office DLL files instead of the Access Database Engine drivers. This change was the cause of the slowdown.

To resolve the issue, we reinstalled the Access Database Engine, which reset the driver settings to use the correct files. After this adjustment, the performance returned to normal.

For anyone facing similar issues, it’s worth checking the driver configurations if performance problems arise after an Office repair.

    Thanks again for the support!

    Dear Udhay Manna,

Good day!! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a significant slowdown in your Access database query execution after performing an Office Quick Repair.

To my knowledge, during the repair process, I guess certain settings related to Microsoft Access may have been reset or modified. This could include things like query performance settings, indexing configurations, or other database-related settings that can impact query execution speed.

It's possible that the repair process inadvertently caused some corruption within the Access database, leading to slower query execution times. Try running the Compact and Repair tool within Access itself and check if it helps to address any underlying database corruption issues.

The Office Quick Repair might have affected the drivers or connectivity settings used by your program to access the Access database. Ensure that the correct drivers are installed and configured properly.

    Hope it helps!

I will also keep this thread open. Welcome community members and MVPs who have similar experience to share insights and suggestions here.

Thanks for your time and cooperation! Have a nice day!

    Best Regards,

    Tina
