Someone sent me a link to a powerpoint doc that I would like to save for reference in the future. I want it to no duplicate the file. I can't see any options around saving or whatever (other than saving a copy).

How do I;

save as an alias -or-

bookmark -or-

favorite -or-

whatever it's called a live file someone sent me.

It was shared over a Teams Teams, and has sharepoint in the URL. Microsoft terminology confuses the heck outta me, so this is the clearest I can explain what I'm trying to do.

    Dear NewUser123456789,

Good day! Thank you for posting in our community. Your question is "How to save access to file in a microsoft app link sent via a sharepoint.".

To save or bookmark the live file someone sent you without duplicating it, you can do the following:

    1. Pinning the File in Microsoft Teams:

    • If the file was shared in a Microsoft Teams chat or channel, you can pin the file directly within Teams.
      • Open the chat or channel where the file was shared.
      • Click on the "Files" tab.
      • Find the PowerPoint file, click the three dots (...) next to it, and select "Make this a tab"
    • This makes the file easily accessible from the "Files" tab in that chat or channel without creating duplicates.

    2. Bookmarking the Link in Your Browser:

    • Copy the PowerPoint file link you received.
    • Open it in your browser (e.g., Edge, Chrome), you can bookmark the page. This way, you can easily return to the file without duplicating it.

    3. Adding to Favorites in Office Apps:

    • When you open the file in PowerPoint (Online or Desktop), you might see an icon to "pin the item to the list."
    • This will add the file to your "pinned" list within the Office app, allowing you to quickly find and access it without duplicating it

Thank you for your cooperation and have a nice day!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia
