OneDrive sharing problem

Hello,

I recently came across a problem that when I tried to share a powerpoint file (in the format of pptx, size 6M) with my parents with both of us logging in my Microsoft account in the U.S. and China, they could see that file that I shared however could not open nor read it. I reviewed all the processes and I believe there should not be a problem of internet censorship, webpage blocking nor internet speed (fiber optic). The powerpoint file is just my assignment, and Microsoft is pretty much prevalent in China. May I ask for your advices and how to fix it?

Thanks a lot!

Meng

    Hi, Meng_OSU

Thank you for using Microsoft products and posting them to the community.

It looks like the problem you are experiencing when using OneDrive to share PowerPoint files through Microsoft accounts in the US and China could be caused by a number of factors. Here are some possible causes and suggestions you can try to resolve:

File limitations or compatibility issues: Sometimes, shared PowerPoint files (.pptx) may have issues when accessed through OneDrive in different regions. Suggest that your parents try opening the file directly through the web version of PowerPoint on OneDrive instead of downloading it, which will avoid some of the compatibility issues with local desktop apps.

Office 365 Regional Access: While Microsoft services such as OneDrive and Office 365 are generally available in China, connection delays and occasional connectivity issues may affect file access or functionality due to regional restrictions. While Office 365 services are not explicitly blocked in China, the user experience can be inconsistent. Some users find that using a VPN is necessary to ensure full access, but you need to be aware of the legal requirements for using a VPN in China.

OneDrive link or share permissions: Double-check your sharing settings on OneDrive files to make sure permissions are set to allow them to view or edit (if needed). Sometimes permissions may need to be adjusted even if the file has been shared, especially if the link was initially set to Restricted Access.

I hope the above information can help you. Feel free to send a message if you need further help.

    Best wishes
