Issue with SharePoint Stream Web Part - Error When Selecting Folder as Source

Hello,

I am encountering an issue while using the SharePoint Stream web part. When configuring the web part, I see four source options:

  1. Videos on this site
  2. Folder
  3. Playlist
  4. Single video

The web part functions perfectly when I select "Videos on this site," "Playlist," or "Single video" as the source. However, when I choose "Folder" and attempt to select a folder, I receive the following error message:

The object specified does not belong to a list. Change your selections and try again. Can't find videos in this folder. Select a folder with videos, and they'll show up here.”

This issue seems to be specific to the "Folder" option. I have double-checked the folder to ensure it contains videos, yet the error persists.

Could someone please assist in identifying the cause of this issue and suggest a solution? I have also attached a snapshot of the error for reference.

Thank you in advance for your help

    Dear respected  Jerry 16,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

I’m sorry you’re having a problem but based on your description we can work together to resolve it.

For the situation you encountered, we deeply understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it.

As per your description, based on my test, it seems that I can also meet the same behaviour as like you described above. When choose "Folder" option we will get error message in SharePoint Stream web part. However, there is no issue when choose "Videos on this site," "Playlist," or "Single video" as the source in SharePoint Stream web part.

Firstly, please allow me to explain. The choose "Folder" option only work when you save video inside the "document library" via created by classic experience( not a general document library).

Based on my test, please follow my below steps.

1.Create a library(video library) via go to SharePoint online site content>Select Settings >Add an App>click on in the classic experience.

    2.Select document library to create:

3.You will see created document library under site contents:

4.Access the document library and upload a video.

5.Then go to your SharePoint online Stream web part>select the document library>choose Folder and video will appear.

Please understand that our initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

I'm sorry and I apologize for that.

Appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Waqas Muhammad

    Hello Waqas Muhammad,

Thank you for your response and for providing the steps to resolve the issue. I have carefully followed your instructions, but unfortunately, the problem persists. I am still encountering the same error when attempting to use the "Folder" as the source in the SharePoint Stream web part.

To clarify, the other source options ("videos on this site", "Playlist", and "Single video") continue to work without any issues. Still, the error message appears only when I select "Folder" as the source.

If there are any additional steps or troubleshooting methods you could suggest, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you again for your assistance!

    Hello Waqas Muhammad,

Thank you for your continued support. I’ve done some further troubleshooting and discovered something that seems to be causing the issue.

It appears that videos in the SharePoint Stream web part do not load when the document library or folder names contain spaces. However, if I create the document library or folders without spaces in their names, the videos load successfully. This issue arises specifically when I select the "Source: Folder" option in the Stream web part.

Here are the steps I followed to reproduce the issue:

    1. Created a document library with spaces in its name (e.g., "Video Library") using the classic experience in SharePoint Online.
    2. Created a folder inside the library with spaces in its name (e.g., "Training Videos").
    3. Uploaded videos to the folder.
    4. Added the Stream web part to a SharePoint page and selected the folder from step 2.
    5. The video content does not load.

When I repeated the process with a document library and folder without spaces in the names (e.g., "VideoLibrary/TrainingVideos"), the videos loaded without any issues. It seems this might be related to how the Stream web part handles URL encoding (spaces being encoded as %20).

Could you please try this on your end to see if you encounter the same issue? Also, is this a known or official issue in SharePoint, or is there a workaround for handling libraries or folders with spaces?

I appreciate your guidance and look forward to your response.
