This morning when i opened up any Excel file, all cells that contain an equation have their cell values shown with a strikethrough. If I go to the font format strikethrough is not selected. Other than that the files seem to run properly.

    Dear, Gary Franc

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

The issue you're experiencing, where Excel cells display strikethrough formatting without it being explicitly applied, has been discussed in the Microsoft Community. A similar problem was addressed in a thread titled "Manual calculation causing lines through certain cells in Excel," where users reported unintended strikethroughs in cells.

Here is the references: Announcing Excel Stale Value Formatting

it was identified that the strikethrough appearance was due to Excel's "Stale Value Formatting" feature. This feature indicates cells that haven't been recalculated, especially when manual calculation mode is enabled. Switching to automatic calculation mode resolved the issue for the affected users.

To address this in your Excel:

    1. Switch to Automatic Calculation Mode:
      • Go to the Formulas tab.
      • Click on Calculation Options.
      • Select Automatic.
    2. Recalculate the Workbook:
      • Press F9 to recalculate all worksheets.

If the issue persists after these steps, consider checking for any add-ins or macros that might be affecting cell formatting. Disabling them temporarily can help identify the cause. Kindly see how to boot your Excel into safe mode here: Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC - Microsoft Support

Please inform me of the outcome. If the issue persists, kindly upload a screenshot here so we can better understand what is occurring with your Excel file. Thank you!

    Best regards,

The problem is resolved. The Excel file in question performs a massive amount of calculations such that when it opens, the Auto_Open VBA code turns automatic calculations off. The file has its own menu that is accessible through Excel's Add-Ins tab. Calculations are perform based on Apps used in the menu.

In the latest Office365 updates, since automatic calculations is set to off, new formatting for cells with formulas that might not have completed results, called stale values, are reformatted with strike-throughs. Once I realized this, all that needed to be done was to go to the calculation options tab and click off the newly added "Format Stale Values" option. In my option, this new feature's default setting should have been to have "Format Stale Values" turned off not on.
