My pivot table does not update in Excel 365. I wanted to change the range of the file in a different tab of the same file. It links me to the wrong file path and keeps on saying that it cannot find the file. Before the updates I could just specify the tab name and not specify the file path which I cannot figure out how it is configured.

    Hello, Richard Schank1

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

It seems you're encountering a typical issue with PivotTables in Excel 365. A PivotTable might not refresh for various reasons, often related to data sources, external links, or excessive formula use. Initially, verify if your PivotTable contains formulas, like the GETPIVOTDATAfunction, and consider disabling or deselecting them.

In the meantime, here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:

    1. Update the Data Source:
      • Select any cell in the pivot table.
      • Go to the PivotTable Analyze tab.
      • Click on Change Data Source and select the correct range from the new tab.
    2. Check for External Links:
      • Sometimes, Excel might be linking to an external file. Go to Data > Edit Links and check if there are any links to external files. If so, update or remove them.
      • Sometimes, if these externally linked tables are in other paths or not opened at the same time, your PivotTable may not be updated correctly, so either make sure your worksheet and PivotTable are in the same Excel table, or open them at the same time. And make sure the storage path is consistent.
    3. Now, refresh the Pivot Table:
      • Right-click on the pivot table and select Refresh.
      • Alternatively, you can go to the PivotTable Analyze tab and click on Refresh.
      • Before refreshing, make sure these data sources have been re-selected for generation.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, you might want to share this file with me, If these issues were working before, it's definitely worth starting with a specific file. You can share them with me in a private message:

Let me know if this helps or if you need further assistance!
