Help about Error Code: 16000

Hello everyone,I am currently experiencing a connection issue with an Excel file linked to a PowerBi located on SharePoint.
Here are the details of my problem:

  1. When I open the Excel file, a login page appears to refresh the 'External Data' linked to PowerBI.
  2. After selecting the correct account, the login page reopens, asking me to choose an account again.
  3. This process keeps repeating in a loop, preventing me from accessing the file.
  4. The only option I have is to select 'No' when asked to refresh the data. However, even when choosing this option, the data seems to refresh regardless.

This issue is particularly inconvenient for accessing the Excel file.

It is important to note that I am opening the Excel file through the application and not via the web version.

Thank you in advance for your help in resolving this unusual problem.

    Hi,

Thank you again for your time.

After showing where the Section for the accounts is located, I can confirm that after removing all of the other accounts and leaving only the correct one connected, the Excel refreshing was successful.

However, the issue is that we need to have all of these accounts because some of the Excel files are located on other accounts.

What can we do to resolve the issue now that we know the problem is related to multiple accounts in the sessions?

    Best Regards,

    Hi Teva MILLOCHAU,

Good day! I hope you are doing well.

You can re-add the accounts you removed and check to see if the issue still persists. If the issue continues, you can remove the accounts from the Windows settings and try signing in from the Office application to see if this resolves the problem.

If you are still facing issues, I would suggest Create a new user account in your Windows so that we can check if the issue is related to profile corruption.

Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. We appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Dear Teva MILLOCHAU,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

We are sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with your Excel app which keeps looping after accessing an Exile file. I deeply understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it.

We appreciate your understanding that sometimes the initial response may not resolve the problem immediately. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. So, for further troubleshooting, could you please provide the information below:

    1. Could you please let me know how many accounts are signed into your Excel app? If you have multiple accounts signed in, could you please sign out of all accounts except the one that has access to the affected file?
    2. Additionally, could you please let me know if you have tried to disconnect and reconnect your Office account from the Windows settings? On your computer, go to Settings > Accounts, scroll down to Access work or school, and you'll see the work/school accounts listed there. You'll be able to remove them and then re-add them.

Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. We appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

Ralph Chawatama | Microsoft Community Moderator

    Hi Ralph,

Thank you for the quick reply.

Here are the actions I took for the first proposition : I logged out of all my Microsoft 365 apps (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and logged back in with the only account I need.

(only in the application not in the accounts section in settings Microsoft)

    However, the issue persists.
I noticed something strange: even though I only log in with the account I need, another account is still being suggested for login.

This shouldn't happen since that account is no longer logged in. https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/062649c9-8125-4875-bfe2-3049d7de9af2?platform=QnA"https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/4490026f-058a-46b1-9671-cfec5b8127db?platform=QnA" title="filestore.community.support.microsoft.com" rel="ugc nofollow">

Thank you by advance for your help

    Dear Teva MILLOCHAU,

Good day! I hope you are doing well.

From the screenshot it seems like you are under the Email & Account section, you can try to remove/disconnect that account from Setting > Account > Access Work or school

If the issue still persists or maybe you cannot find the accounts under the Access Work or school section, you can try to reconfigure the Power BI link in your Excel file again.

Lastly if the this does not help maybe the local settings had affected the application. Thus, we would like you to check whether the issue is related to your user profile. In this situation, we suggest you Create a new user account under your Windows. See if it still alerts you with the same error message. It is worth trying because it will help you narrow down whether the issue is caused by a specific corrupted user profile causing the unwanted sign in.

Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. We appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation.

    Sincerely,
