Hi,

I am trying to remove the white shading behind text in a table but when I apply the no shading to text through the tables borders and shading, it only applies it to the first cell in the table.

Why is this happening?

    Dear jshhndsd0,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

    I understand that you will only show up in the first cell when you try to apply the No Shadow in the Borders and Underlines option in Word. I understand how you feel when you encounter problems.

    Are you currently using a Mac or Windows system(I noticed that you have not selected this board)?I have tested it in Windows, you can refer to it (if you are currently using Mac, you are welcome to contact anytime and we will give you further support):

    In order to help you better, I would like to know a little more about it with you:

    • Can I ask if you are not displaying it throughout the table after right clicking and selecting Table Properties and then selecting Borders and Underlining as shown in the image below?

    Image

    • Did you select Apply to whole table instead of cells in the bottom right corner?

    If you choose to apply to the entire form after the still will only be displayed in a cell, may be Word's options settings have a problem, we recommend that you can reset Word troubleshooting:

    Reset Word:

    1. Exit all Office programmes
    2. Make sure there are no files in the following folders:
            1) Locate to C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP, press the Enter key to see if the file exists, if it does, delete it, if not, close it;
            2) Locate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\STARTUP or C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\STARTUP to see if the file exists professional knowledge, if there is, please delete it likewise, if not, close it;
    3. hold down the Windows key + R at the same time, type regedit and press enter;
    4. locate the following keys in turn and rename the word folder (right click on it and select rename, e.g. rename word to wordold);       HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\word      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\word
    5. Click Start, type %AppData%\Microsoft\Templates in Search Programs and Files and press Enter;
    6. Back up and delete files with a .dotm extension, such as Normal.dotm;
    7. After performing the above operations, view the problem.

    Please understand that preliminary information may not give us a clear picture of the depth of the problem. If there is any progress, you are welcome to share more information with us at any time.

    Thank you for your understanding and support.

    Best wishes

    Select the table cells and, in the Borders and Shading dialog box, ensure that you choose the "Text" option in the "Apply to" drop down.

    In particular, notice that cells which are empty will not display any text shading. You will see the shading as soon as you enter text, though.
