OneNote is on PC within OneDrive but only as internet shortcuts. Our internet is not reliable (rural). How do we get the actual Folders/File on our PC so we can access locally? And continue to update/backup as per schedule? TIA

Jonathan's reply is misleading. Both OneNotes work the same way with OneDrive notebooks.

They use a local copy of open notebooks, stored in the local cache. This allows making changes while without Internet.

The changes get synchronized after reconnecting to the Internet.

Additionally OneNote from Office allows avoiding OneDrive completely.

    Hi Smartie1959,

    Thanks for visiting Microsoft Community.

Currently, OneNote is available in two versions: OneNote for Windows 10 and OneNote for Microsoft 365, the latter of which is exclusively for Microsoft 365 subscribers. If you are using OneNote for Windows 10, your notes are by default saved in the cloud on OneDrive, with local copies serving as cache. Therefore, when you are offline, synchronization of your notes will not be possible. If you wish to save your notes locally on your PC, you can use OneNote for Microsoft 365, which allows notes to be stored in local folders.

You can choose the appropriate version of OneNote based on your specific needs; both can be found and downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

    Best Regards,
