Recurring problems with syncing

Hello, I have been having a recurring issue with syncing my OneNote. This is the error message that I am receiving "OneNote can't sync your notes right now. We'll keep trying. (Error code: 0xE000002E bukxo 30103 | 658c36df-3317-469e-83a0-711675caa803 202408082320)". I have tried clearing cache or renaming the cache folder, but the issue persists. I also have trouble backing up to try out other methods; it mentioned something about administrative privileges. However, this is my personal account so I am not sure what additional administrative privileges OneNote is looking for. Thank you for your help.

    Dear Carol W2,

    Thank you for your reply.

We see that you said that you still cannot synchronize your OneNote note information through the previously recommended steps, and errors will also occur when synchronizing new notes.

According to your description, we have further confirmed and inquired. Your error message shows "Unable to connect to the server". This error may be due to errors in your note detection account or network connection, which leads to the inability to synchronize.

You tried to clear the credentials, but it was invalid. In order to help check whether the network connection is stable, you can help try the following optimization:

    Change DNS:

"Start" > "Settings" > "Network and Internet" > Double-click to open "Change Adapter Options" > Right-click "Connected Network" to open "Properties" > Select "Internet Protocol Version 4", double-click to open > Check Use the following DNS server address > Preferred DNS server (4.2.2.1), Alternate DNS server (4.2.2.2) > OK > OK > Try again after changing, remember to change to automatic after success

Reset Internet Option network options: Press Windows (logo key) + R, enter inetcpl.cpl, then click Advanced, scroll down to Security in the "Settings" list, check SSL3.0, TSL1.0, TSL1.1, TSL1.2 applications, and click Reset below, then click Delete personal settings, and then click Reset.

Locate: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc, find the hosts file, cut it to the desktop (that is, clear the host operation), and then see how it works.

You can try the operation to see if it works. If there are other updates, you can always reply to us. Best wishesZenobia.Z | Microsoft Community Support Specialist

    Hi Zenobia,

Thank you for the solutions you have suggested. I have followed the steps, but am unfortunately still facing a similar issue. I am now between encountering the error code previously mentioned and this new error code on the new notebook that I have created: OneNote can't connect to the server. Sync will resume once we connect. You don't need to take any action. (Error code: 0x803D0010 bdfno). I have seen this error code before, but it never truly resolves.

I have version 16.0 of OneNote. I have tried syncing using other networks, but the issue still persists.

    Dear Carol W2,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We understand that your OneNote is experiencing issues with syncing and displays an error.

We see that you have tried clearing the cache and renaming your folders but none of them have alleviated your issue. We have checked and confirmed based on your error code.

This error may occur when your OneNote notes need to be updated but cannot be run automatically. You can wait for the next full sync, which should automatically resolve the issue. Alternatively, you can force a full sync by pressing Shift+F9 while OneNote is running.

Resolve the 0xE000002E (Out of Sync with Store) error in OneNote - Microsoft Support

To better help you confirm a more detailed method, please share more information with us:

    1. Which version of OneNote are you using? Is it OneNote for Windows 10 or OneNote? What are the differences between OneNote versions? - Microsoft Support?
    2. Have you tried to log in to OneNote on other devices? Other devices can log in and sync your note information normally?
    3. When syncing OneNote, do you use VPN or other networks? Have you tried switching networks?

If you don't want to wait for the next full sync, you can try the following solutions before replying to us to see if they work:

(The following content mainly applies to OneNote. If you are using another version of OneNote, please let us know the version)

    I. Clear the corresponding login credentials to confirm

    1. Press Windows+R to open the run box, copy and paste the following path, back up all the folders in this path and then delete them. %localappdata%/Microsoft/OneAuth %localappdata%/Microsoft/IdentityCache
    2. Press Windows+R, enter regedit, click OK, open the registry, find the following registry subkey, right-click Identity, and delete it. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity

Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click here to view the article.

Meanwhile, the problem may be related to the damaged notes in the notebook Recycle Bin. If you don't need the OneNote notes, you can try to delete them and check the result. Check the deleted notes.

Open OneNote, access the notebook from which the section or page was deleted, click History, select OneNote Trash, select the deleted note information, and then right-click Delete.

    1. Force OneNote to sync:

You can try to force OneNote to sync again to ensure that all notes can be successfully synced:

Open the OneNote notebook, click "File" > "About" > "View Sync Status", select "Automatically sync when changes occur", and then click the "Sync Now" button next to the affected notebook. Alternatively, you can click the "Sync All" button to sync all notebooks.

    1. Create a new section or notebook:

If you still cannot sync successfully after following the above steps, it is recommended that you create a new section for the notes or directly create a new notebook for the Un synced Notes

After creating a new section, copy the contents of the notes from the problematic notebook to the new notebook. After success, OneNote will automatically sync the newly created notes.

You can try it. If you have any updates, you can reply to us. We will also provide more detailed information based on your subsequent help. We can find a solution together.

    Best Regards,
