I am finishing my report on MS Word on Mac, and when I added even page numbers footer for all pages which start at the second page with the number 2 and the number of the next page is still 2 thus I changed it to 4, however the later page was still marked with the number 2 thus when I changed it to 6 the number of the second page was also changed, and I wonder does the field are nested too deeply is the main cause of the problem as the message frequently showed up when I open and using Word. Please help

Please excuse the extensive exercise in futility proffered by Navia.Ni. Your description indicates that you are manually typing a number into the footer. Anything manually entered will repeat in all pages to which that footer applies. IOW, typing the number doesn't invoke sequential numbering.

In the footer use the Insert> Page Numbers command from the main menu bar or the Insert tab of the Ribbon. An alternative is to use the keyboard shortcut Shift+Control+P to insert the Page Number field. For more info see Help> Word Help in the menu bar using the search term page numbers.

The Normal.dotm template has nothing to do with this issue. Replacing it will resolve nothing.
