Uncontrolled and fluctuating document width from established margins

I'm using Microsoft word to write my book. Recently, something happened. I used to hold to an established, standard width (6 inches) when I first opened the document. When I called up the "Find" or the Thesaurus, the width would hold its place. Now, it's all different. The width opens at 7.5 inches or more and "crunches up" or moves around when I open 'Find" or Thesaurus. How do I go back to my original settings of holding the margin width? I'm getting frustrated trying to find the answer. Thank you

Your screen shot indicates that the document is displayed in Web Layout view. Click the icon for Print Layout view on the far right of the Word window (see the screen shot below) or go to the View tab and click Print Layout there.
