Export Microsoft ToDo after changing primary alias to another domain and removing old one?

Hello everyone,

I’ve been using Microsoft ToDo for about five years and would like to export all my lists/tasks—including completed items (with their completion dates), due dates, and any other details. I found the official guide (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/exporting-your-microsoft-to-do-account-d286b243-affb-4db4-addc-162e16588943?WT.mc_id=365AdminCSH_Smc) which explains how to do this via Outlook.com.

However, I recently changed my primary alias from an old @live to a private (non-microsoft) domain email. As a result, I can’t log into Outlook with this new email address (even though I see all my tasks in the ToDo app under the new alias). Following the guide’s steps is impossible because Outlook.com doesn’t recognize the new alias (cant log in). Is there a workaround or another method I can use to export all my tasks and lists (including completed tasks with their completion dates)? Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you!

    Hello, A. User.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

If you want to export all tasks and lists in Microsoft To Do, including completed tasks and their completion dates, after changing the primary alias of your Microsoft account. Since you cannot log in to Outlook.com with your new email address, you cannot export according to the official guide. Here are some possible solutions:

    1. Export tasks using Outlook desktop client:

If you have Outlook desktop client installed on your computer, you can try the following steps:

    • Open Outlook. Click "File" > "Open & Export" > "Import/Export".
    • In the wizard, select "Export to a file" and click "Next".
    • Select "Comma Separated Values" and click "Next".
    • Select the "Tasks" folder and click "Next". As shown here:
    • Select a save location, name the file, and click "Finish".

    Manual backup:

    • If none of the above methods work, you may need to manually back up your tasks:
    • In Microsoft To Do, right-click the list name and select "Email List".
    • Send the task list to your email address.
    • Open the email and copy the tasks to a text file or spreadsheet to save.

Note that Microsoft To Do export capabilities may be limited, especially after changing the main alias. Before trying any method, it is recommended to back up existing data to prevent accidental loss.
