Confirming customer support rep interaction?

Hi,

Is there a way to call Microsoft Support to confirm whether a customer support interaction occurred? I am trying to assist somebody who is a Defender client who we believe clicked a bad link and had a scammer log into their computer. We want to give them the option to confirm whether it was valid or not (assuming not), and potentially run Defender to get rid of any bad files/etc from the laptop.

Thanks!

    Hello, MS_983.

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

To address your concerns about potential tech support scams and ensure the security of your system, please consider the following steps:、

    1. Identify Tech Support Scams: Tech support scams often involve unsolicited communications claiming to be from well-known companies like Microsoft. These scams may send alarming messages or request remote access to your computer. Please note that Microsoft does not proactively contact users to offer tech support. For more information, refer to Avoiding tech support scams - Microsoft Community
    2. Verify the Legitimacy of Support Interactions:

Genuine Microsoft support interactions are typically initiated by the user. If you did not request support, be cautious of unsolicited contact. If you are unsure about the legitimacy of a support interaction, contact Microsoft directly through their official support channels. Avoid using contact information provided in unsolicited messages. In your case, you should submit a report Microsoft-Report a technical support scam.

For more reporting tools and interaction tools, see [Report spam, non-spam, phishing, suspicious emails and files to Microsoft - Microsoft Defender for Office 365 | Microsoft Learn](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/defender-office-365/submissions-report-messages-files-to-microsoft "learn.microsoft.com")

    1. Protect Your System:
      • Run a Full System Scan: Use Microsoft Defender to perform a full system scan to detect and remove any malware.
      • Update Security Settings: Ensure your operating system and all security software are up to date to prevent vulnerabilities.

If you believe you have encountered a scam, report it to Microsoft to help combat fraudulent activities. By following these steps, you can enhance your security and reduce the risk of falling victim to tech support scams.

Feel free to share updates with me on how things are progressing after you've completed the aforementioned steps. Should you have any questions or require clarification, do not hesitate to reach out to me. I‘d like to do my utmost to assist you.

    Best Regards,
