Microsoft Forms Error - New Sync Broke Form

Hi there,

This morning when opening Microsoft Forms, we have a form that we regularly use that is now giving us the following error:

"Sync all responses to new workbook

Form and workbook data are not in sync: An error occurred in your Excel workbook.

To get a complete set of the most updated responses, sync the data to a new workbook.

  1. Open the existing workbook 2. Sync data to a new workbook"

We have tried syncing data to a new workbook repeatedly, and are continuing to get the same error message every time we open the workbook. It does seem to sync when we open the workbook, but when we close it and go to re-open, the same error occurs.

Please help!

Thanks.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for posting in the community. We are happy to help you.

I understand the inconvenience you are experiencing. Since we are communicating in the community, I am not able to check your environment directly. Therefore, I would like to gather more information for initial troubleshooting. This can help us better narrow down the problem.

    1. I think you have opened the workbook in Excel for Web (in the browser). If not, please try to open the workbook in Excel for Web and check again.
    2. I think the form is a group form. If not, i.e. it is a personal form, please point it out and let us know.

If so, since the linked workbook will created in SharePoint (by default in the Documents library), I suggest you check the library settings. Go to the library, and see if the workbook is checked out or the library has "Content Approval" enabled.

For "Content Approval", the site owner can go to the library> Settings> More library settings> Versioning Settings> Content Approval. If it is set to "Yes", change the setting to "No" and then Save. In addition, on the Versioning Settings page, check the "Require Check out" option to ensure that it is set to "No".

In addition, see if you can see the "Missing Metadata" or "Require info" error in the library as shown below.

    1. If the above settings are correct, I would like to know whether the problem is occurring on a specific form or on all group forms in your organization, especially other group forms in the same group.
    2. Please provide full screenshots including the error message.

You can upload the screenshots via "Insert Image".

    Hi George,

I am experiencing the same issue.

I have 12 forms that feed a power bi report, however 6 of them have stopped working correctly.

"Sync all responses to new workbook

Form and workbook data are not in sync: An error occurred in your Excel workbook.

To get a complete set of the most updated responses, sync the data to a new workbook.

    1. Open the existing workbook 2. Sync data to a new workbook"

I have tried syncing data to a new workbook repeatedly, and are continuing to get the same error message every time we open the workbook.

The data syncs when i open the workbooks, but when we close it and go to re-open, the same error occurs.

In answer to your questions above.

    1. It opens in excel in web as a default, opening it in excel didn't resolve it.
    2. All the forms are part of a group, which include other forms that are functioning correctly.
    3. The forms is not checked out
    4. Content approval is set to NO

Forms outlined in red are all faulty

I look forward to your reply

    Paul
