O365 Word - Cannot paste text with multiple underscores between angled brackets

I have various strings I would like to copy into Word Online, where the format is similar to:

<<text>>

or

<<a_b_c>>

When pasting the former into Word, no issues, I can see <<text>>. Posting the latter ends up in Word as <>.

Note: Copying the above text into Word works just fine. Instead, type the text into notepad, then copy and paste into Word.

Hello KH_au,

Thank you for reaching out! I understand how frustrating this issue can be, especially when it affects your workflow. I’ve tested and reproduced the scenario, and I’m also experiencing the same behavior.

Unfortunately, it seems to be an unexpected behavior in Word Online. I recommend you report this directly to the Microsoft feedback portal. The developers do not read posts in the forum.

In the meantime, the best workaround would be to use the desktop version of Word, where the issue does not occur, and sync your work with OneDrive.

I apologize for the inconvenience, and I appreciate your understanding! Let me know if you need any further assistance!

Best regards,
