Sharepoint: Can you add custom domain?

I want to know if it’s possible if you can connect a custom domain though a hosting provider, like GoDaddy or Namescheap though a CNAME for my Sharepoint site? Instead of the domain ending with sharepoint.com, or something like that. Can it end with my own domain?

Like

yourdomain.com, or sub.yourdomain.com

    Dear AmarHot,

Thank you for reaching out with your query about connecting a custom domain to your SharePoint Online site.

Currently, SharePoint Online does not support custom domains in the way you’ve described (e.g., replacing the “sharepoint.com” domain entirely). SharePoint Online site URLs are fixed to use the *.sharepoint.com domain assigned to your Microsoft 365 tenant.

However, you can configure a custom domain to something like yourdomain.sharepoint.com. This feature is useful for aligning the domain with your brand or organization’s identity.

You can find detailed guidance on how to change your SharePoint domain name in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Thanks for the answer, but I’m confused as the agent on Microsoft support through X says custom domains are offered.

    Dear AmarHot,

    Thank you for your follow-up.

I understand the confusion, and I appreciate your patience. To clarify, SharePoint Online does not support completely replacing the “sharepoint.com” domain with a fully custom domain (such as "yourdomain.com" or "sub.yourdomain.com") for site URLs.

However, Microsoft does offer the ability to use custom domains in certain areas, such as with the SharePoint Online site collections. For example, you can use your custom domain for things like email addresses (e.g., ******@yourdomain.com) and you can set up custom branding on your SharePoint site, but the actual site URL will remain on the "sharepoint.com" domain. Here are related articles for your reference.

It's possible that the agent you spoke to was referring to other types of customization that involve configuring custom domains for specific services within your Microsoft 365 subscription, such as for Teams or Outlook, which do allow more flexibility with custom domains.

If upper information is useful to you, I’d appreciate it if you could take a moment to vote on the answer. Your feedback is valuable to improve the support experience.

Please let me know if you would like more clarification.
