A elderly friend of mine got a call from a overseas caller from a English number, saying they were from Microsoft saying she had been hacked ,and wanted to fix it he was asking her questions, he open note pad to talk to her, she said she wasn't going to open anything,

he kept asking her why.

She said they had some details abut her Microsoft account.

She was on her computer when i walked in He was talking to her on note pad.

I closed the window, and put the scanner on to scan all the files.

Shes sure he was genuine, i said I didn't think so.

Do you think this was a scan, or just me not trusting anyone?

It was definitely a scammer. Microsoft never phones users like that.

If you wish, you can report it to Microsoft: Avoid and report Microsoft technical support scams

I completely agree with Hans. If it were a legitimate issue Microsoft would have contacted the user by way of the email address on file for the user's account. The phone number on record never is used to initiate contact with users unless expressly requested by the user [such as in connection with certain support issues].
