Microsoft Teams - Search for content within the wiki section

Dear all,

Why isn't it possible to search for content within Microsoft Team's wiki section? Is there any way to search for content in Microsoft Team's wiki's?

Thanks in advance!

Totally agree! Search in Teams is limited to messages, persons and files. What's a wiki without search?

Ehhhrrrr not sure what to write. Really flabbergasted that there is no search on the wiki.

I only have 3 entries but this is just weird. And basically renders it useless. You use a wiki to store information but if you can not search it then what's the use.

The download htm option is cumbersome and does not search inside the wiki is useless.

Well maybe they will think to add search but until that time it's a toy.

Hey @SchiphorstFranc-1352 you definitely should give a try to PerfectWiki. It's already has full text search and export functionality. DM me if you have any questions.

IWhile waiting for Teams to support wiki search - my present workaround is to open the wiki page in the browser and use the browsers search -

I guess that you still have to know which wiki page to start searching in - have not found a way to do that yet - glad I've only invested in one wiki page :-(

I'm unable to perform a search against Wiki content in Teams unless I use the Conversation feature within a specific Wiki SECTION. If I do that, then the Conversation within that Wiki section becomes searchable. 37727-teams-wiki-conversation-feature.jpg

Unfortunately, the Conversation feature icon is NOT visually evident unless you either click or hover your mouse on a particular Wiki section. When you do that, you'll see the 3 dots (More Options) along with the Conversation icon. A screen shot of this feature is attached to this response to provide a better idea of what/where to access the Conversation feature.

It would be most desirable to be able to search against ALL Wiki content, not just the Conversation piece, as most users will not see/use that feature.

Thanks for posting this. It is insane that MSFT hasn't added a search to just the wiki page you're looking at. Insane.

Hi guys,

This is a request which can be found under the Microsoft Teams UserVoice here. However, it it still receiving votes but Microsoft hasn't done much with it... So make sure to give it an upvote, but I wouldn't expect much in the near future for it (sadly enough).

I can't believe there is no wiki search

  • yeah, it's hard to invest in a Wiki that you can't search.

With all the promotion of MS Teams I find it hard to believe that basic functionality like searching a Wiki is missing. Unbelievable! :-(

We also want to be able to edit the chat inside a wiki.

As of 8/10/20, I can use the top level Search bar in Teams to find a wiki page containing a keyword, but the experience that follows is nonsensical:
1. The main pane shows “Check out your search results on the left”. In the left bar, “Messages” is shown with “We didn’t find any matches.” If I click Files, it shows a “.mht” document containing the keyword I searched (so why not display the hit you DID find in the first place?)
2. When I click on the .mht file in the left bar, the main pane shows “Preview not available. Please download the file”. Why not just take me to the wiki page?
3. When click the “Download” button, it downloads a .mht file. When I doubleclick the downloaded file, it opens by default in internet explorer (?). a plain text notice appears at the top: “This page is automatically updated from the Wiki in Microsoft Teams - any changes made here will be overwritten. To edit this page, open it in Microsoft Teams.” There is no link or apparent way to open in teams, however, and I was unable to figure out how to associate the .mht file type with Teams.
Posting this feedback on https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/18623599-fulltextsearch-for-wiki also.

Hey, I wrote a post on "How to Search Through Microsoft Teams Built-In Wiki".

Basically it's not a baked solution, but a workaround. This workaround is a bit hacky, but it’ll allow you to do a full-text search through Microsoft Teams built-in wiki.

Hey, Microsoft moved its feedback portal from uservoice to inhouse portal. Here is a new link for posting feedback on "Full text search feature" -> https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/idea/46fcdafc-262e-ec11-b6e6-00224827bbc2

As you can see by the comments, this has been open since 2020, I guess MS does not think its important enough to add the feature,, to me its an example of MS lack of commitment to making products better.

Would really love to know if this is available now, or will be available soon. I don't know what good a wiki is if you cannot search it.
