Multiple Selections Using Drop Down Menu on Microsoft Forms

When creating choice question in Microsoft forms, the only way to allow multiple choices on a question is by using the choice selection. If "drop down" is toggled, the multiple answers feature is disabled. I have a question that could have over 100 possible answers and would like users to be able to select multiple answers. Using the drop down menu as opposed to the choice selection will save space on the form. Is this something Microsoft is looking into?

    Hello,

I am using an online version of MF and it does not permit multiple answers and the drop-down function. Is there any way to resolve this?

    Thanks in advance.

Dustin, thank you for your response here. I have the same scenario where I have a question that will have up to 64 possible answers (different markets worldwide) and my version is apparently not compatible with this feature. Whenever I choose "multiple answers," the "drop down" option disappears from my 3 dot menu. How can I get a version that will allow me to use this feature? Thanks!

    Dear Kevin,

Thank you for reaching out to us. Please find below detailed instructions on how to create a question in Microsoft Forms that allows users to select multiple answers, while using a drop-down menu to save space on the form:

    Step-by-Step Instructions:

    1. Access Microsoft Forms:
      1. Open your browser and go to https://forms.office.com
      2. Sign in with your Microsoft account.
    2. Create a New Form:
      1. Click “New Form” to start a new form.
    3. Add a Choice Question:
      1. Click “Add new” → select the “Choice” question type.
    4. Enter Your Question and Options:
      1. Type your question and input the list of possible answers (you can type them manually or paste from an existing list).
    5. Enable Multiple Answers:
      1. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) at the bottom right of the question.
      2. Select “Multiple answers” to allow users to choose more than one option.
    6. Enable Drop-Down Mode:
      1. In the same three-dot menu, select “Drop-down” to display the options in a compact drop-down list (note: this feature may not be compatible with “Multiple answers” in some versions).

    Notes:

    • If your list of options is very long (e.g., over 100 items), we recommend testing the form on both desktop and mobile devices to ensure a smooth user experience.

If you require more in-depth guidance or support for these steps, you may also contact Microsoft’s higher-level technical support through:

Our specialized support team will assist you step by step and ensure you get the most appropriate solution for your needs.
