    sorry to be late.

    S&P 500 (.INX vs ^GSPC)

    • .INX  is ok
    • ^GSPC gives an error with stockhistory

    FTSE 100 (UKX vs ^FTSE)

    • UKX is ok.
    • ^FTSE  givers an error with Stockhistory

    Nikkei 225 (N225)

    • N225 is ok
    • ^N225 gives an error with stockhistory..

    MSCI World (990100)

    • Nor  990100 nor ^990100-USD-STRD are not be recognized by Excel’s STOCKHISTORY function, leading to errors..

    Gold Price (XAUUSD)

    • XAUUSD is the ticker for gold spot prices against the US dollar. Does not give a value with Stockhistory
    • ^XAU works 8.6$ is the value i get

If you’re encountering errors in Excel’s STOCKHISTORY function, it might be due to data provider issues or incorrect ticker usage. You may need to verify the correct tickers for each index or commodity on Yahoo Finance or Bloomberg.

Conclusion : it is a process of trial and error, therefor my question remains :  “is there a list or a source (link) where we can find working ticker codes for index or commodities ?

    Hi,

    Thank you for the response.

Here’s what I found regarding the tickers and errors you mentioned:

    S&P 500 (.INX vs ^GSPC)

    • .INX and ^GSPC both represent the S&P 500 index, but they are used differently.
    • ^GSPC is the ticker used on Yahoo Finance and represents the price index of the S&P 500.
    • .INX is another representation of the index, but it might be showing a different type of data (such as a fractional change rather than the full index value).

    FTSE 100 (UKX vs ^FTSE)

    • UKX is the ticker used on Bloomberg and other financial platforms for the FTSE 100 index.
    • ^FTSE is the ticker used on Yahoo Finance for the same index.
    • The difference in values may be due to how different platforms report the index (e.g., real-time vs delayed data).

    Nikkei 225 (N225)

    • N225 is commonly used to refer to the Nikkei 225 index, but Yahoo Finance uses ^N225.
    • The index tracks the performance of 225 large Japanese companies.

    MSCI World (990100)

    • The ticker 990100 might not be recognized by Excel’s STOCKHISTORY function, leading to errors.
    • Yahoo Finance uses ^990100-USD-STRD for MSCI World historical data.
    • STOCKHISTORY has been reported to produce unreliable results and errors like #CALC!, #CONNECT!, and #SPILL!, possibly due to data provider issues.

    Gold Price (XAUUSD)

    • XAUUSD is the ticker for gold spot prices against the US dollar.
    • Errors in retrieving gold prices may be due to platform limitations or data provider issues.

If you’re encountering errors in Excel’s STOCKHISTORY function, it might be due to data provider issues or incorrect ticker usage. You may need to verify the correct tickers for each index or commodity on Yahoo Finance or Bloomberg.

    Hope this helps.

    thanks for the answer
I have questions on the correctness (some of them i already checked earlier) :

    • S&P 500: .INX gives me 0.42$ whereas Yahoo finance uses ^GSPC with 6010.18 as value this morning
    • FTSE 100: UKX 104.78 ; Yahoo finance uses ^FTSE giving 8884.92
    • Nikkei 225: N225
    • MSCI World: 990100 this gives an error by stockhistory
    • Gold Price: You may need to use a commodity ticker like XAUUSD for gold spot prices. Also here i receive an error
