Upgrade from Office 2021 to 2024 not working

I have been running Office LTSC 2021 for several years and are now trying to upgrade to the Office LTSC 2024 version.

My primary reason is to get some new Excel functions, mainly Choosecols.

I uninstalled the 2021 version and started installation of 2024 and got the following message:

This installation is for 64-bit version of Microsoft 365 and Office, but the following 32-bit are on computer:

Microsoft Office Visio 2010

The solution to this is to select the button Install 32-bit that I select.

After a long time for downloading the 32-bit version the installation went fine and I can select Swedish as user interface.

However the new Choosecols function is still not available and I check the installed version and find this:

I the check the installed programs on my computer and find:

I then unistalled Visio 2010 and Office LTSC 2021 and start a hopefully clean installation again.

Installation works fine but the result is the same as before with LTSC Office 2021 installed but the Control panel shows installed software as LTSC Office 2024.

The LTSC office versio is now 64 bit and I could install

How can I get Microsoft 365 and Office installation software forget of the previous Office installed and even get people believe it is new software installed?

Hi, it looks like you have Office Professional Plus 2021, not LTSC! In any event with LTSC version you should: Deploy Office LTSC 2024 - Office | Microsoft Learn

    Hello stawes,

Welcome to Microsoft Community Support! I am here to help you solve your problems.

It looks like the upgrade process didn't provide access to the new Excel function, Choosecols, likely due to compatibility issues or the installation environment. Here are a few steps you can take to resolve this and ensure you have the correct version:

I understand your concern. To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Completely uninstall all versions of Microsoft Office from your computer, including any remnants of Office LTSC 2021 and Microsoft Office Visio 2010.
    2. Use the Microsoft Office uninstall support tool to ensure a clean removal of all Office components.
    3. Restart your computer after uninstalling all Office versions.
    4. Download the latest version of Microsoft 365 or Office LTSC 2024 from the official Microsoft website.
    5. Install the 64-bit version of Microsoft 365 or Office LTSC 2024.
    6. During the installation process, make sure to select the desired language.
    7. Once the installation is complete, open Excel and check if the new Choosecols function is available.

By following these steps, you should be able to perform a clean installation of Microsoft 365 or Office LTSC 2024 without any remnants of previous Office versions interfering with the installation process.
