Hi,

I am trying to install this applicaiton but the executable will not run
This is what I have tried

  1. Downloaded from this link
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/ssms/download-sql-server-management-studio-ssms?view=sql-server-ver15
  2. Confirmed latest version of .netFramework is installed
  3. Made sure that no other sql applications are installed or partially installed
  4. Made sure that no entries for this application exist in the registry
  5. Tried right clicking and running as administrator
  6. Tried running from an elevated command prompt
  7. McAfee cannot be disabled due to corporate policy

As the executable does not initiate I dont have any logs to refer to
And assistance would be greatly appreciated

    Hi @Vanessa Ecroyd ,

Did you get any error message from the setup wizard UI? Or nothing shown for you when you click SSMS setup file? No SSMS setup log generated? SSMS setup logs is located at %TEMP%\SSMSSetup\SSMS-Setup-ENU_time.log by default. If so, please using Process Monitor to trace the process and share us the output for analysis. You can download the process monitor from this MS link. Please refer to the blog to get the information about how to use process monitor.

    Hi @Vanessa Ecroyd ,

    > but I have since installed other sql products

Did you mean that you installed other version of SSMS on your machine or you have installed SQL server instance on your server?

    > Maybe the Windows10 not supported line?

Did your windows version is windows 10? Please check your os version from Control Panel\System and Security\System.

SSMS 18.9.2 is supported on below operating systems:

    Windows 10 (64-bit) version 1607 (10.0.14393) or later
    • Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
    • Windows Server 2019 (64-bit)
    • Windows Server 2016 (64-bit)
    • Windows Server 2012 R2 (64-bit)
    • Windows Server 2012 (64-bit)
    • Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)

Any other error message that you could find from SSMS setup log?

    Hi Cheryl,

I have uninstalled everything and trying to reinstall again. I had tried to install query express in the interim as a work around.
I suspect something has uninstalled incorrectly?

I dont think it is the Windows version 130899-windowsversion.png

    Hi @Vanessa Ecroyd ,

This root cause of the issue is not windows version, your OS version is 19042.

Could you share us the SSMS setup log for analysis? SSMS setup logs is located at %TEMP%\SSMSSetup\SSMS-Setup-ENU_time.log by default. If we could not find the root cause from SSMS setup log, process monitor is a good choice as i mentioned above.

    > I have uninstalled everything and trying to reinstall again. I had tried to install query express in the interim as a work around.

Did you mean that uninstall SQL server instance? Or uninstall previous version of SSMS?
