We are having an issue with the last few months cumulative updates installing (install initially but the reboot after fails around 98% and undoes changes). Narrowed things down to the Internet Explorer 11 feature being the culprit.....if we disable that feature we can install the CU's no problem. However once we do that we can no longer re-enable that feature again (applies the change, prompts for reboot and then at around the 56% mark at the post install reboot it undoes the changes saying can't apply the feature). IE11 worked fine before disabling it so i'm not sure if all these symptoms are a sign of the FOD feature being corrupt or what . Any other feature on demand i am able to add w/out an issue.

In the troubleshooting we've already tried the dism restorehealth, sfc /scannow and a full inplace upgrade /repair install w/out any luck so not sure what other options i have . curious if theres a way to fully remove and readd that feature from the ISO or something maybe? like repair JUST that feature. or if i have a machine thats not experiencing the issue replace the source files or something?

    Hello Andrew,

Internet Explorer 8.0 (or Internet Explorer 7.0 on Vista) will continue to exist even after you uninstall newer versions.

If you experience a recurring problem when you use Internet Explorer in Windows, you may try to repair or reinstall the program to fix the problem.

You can also reset the program settings to repair your Internet Explorer. To do this, use the following procedure:

    1. Exit all programs, including Internet Explorer.
    2. Press the Windows logo key+R to open the Run box.
    3. Type inetcpl.cpl and select OK.
    4. The Internet Options dialog box appears.
    5. Select the Advanced tab.
    6. Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, select Reset. Then select Reset again.
    7. Select the Delete personal settings check box if you also want to remove browsing history, search providers, Accelerators, home pages, Tracking Protection, and ActiveX Filtering data.
    8. When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, select Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box.
    9. Start Internet Explorer again.

If it does not resolve the issue do follow the below link for advanced methods,
