It seems I'm running a digital version of Windows 10 but some documents are asking for a product key.

Recently purchased Lenovo desktop model 90HV001MUS and confirmed that I am running Windows 10 digital version. Get asked for a product key to launch apps, etc. Can't find satisfactory online answers or explanations about what the Digital version is, or why I keep getting a prompt to enter a product key.
Is the Digital version just a temporary version until you can purchase a version? I thought the computer came with Windows 10. Do I need to return it an purchase another one?

    Hi,

Sounds strange, please provide a screenshot if possible.

Have you checked if your workstation is fully activated? You can verify if your Windows 10 is activated by opening a Command Prompt / PowerShell and then type:

    slmgr /xpr

    Best regards,
    Leon

It sounds like you might be referring to Microsoft Office apps requesting a Product Key, not Windows 10. A manufacturer, such as Lenovo, would include Windows 10 with the purchase of their device. Your device will have a permanent license for Windows 10, usually Home Edition.

Many devices include a temporary or trial version of Microsoft Office apps. They may work for some time without purchasing them, but ultimately, if you want to keep using Microsoft Office apps, you will need to purchase them, or pay to subscribe to Microsoft 365. A free alternative is to use Online Office apps only, which do not include all of the features you would have by paying for these apps. office.com

    Hi
Before going further, I would appreciate your help in clarifying the following situations:

    1. Would you please specify what apps were not able to start or affected by this behavior?
    2. Were there any changes made to your computer? Have you changed any hardware on your computer? Have you tried to change your system to another edition of Windows?
    3. Have you check if your computer status is activated?
You could go to Settings>Update & Security>Activation to see the status,

If you find your computer is activated yet still getting these notifications, you could refer to DonCuthbert’s answer, purchase Office, or pay to subscribe to Microsoft 365 so that Office is fully activated.

You could also contact your computer supplier to get more support information on the purchase plans they provided.

I hope this information above can help you.
