multi site cluster

Hi,

We have Windows 2016 cluster with SQL AG Role (one at production site 10.110.0.0/24)and another at DR site(10.220.0.0/24).
Do you still recommend to create dedicated network for heartbeats?

Also, with windows 2016 OS, the cluster network threshholds are already updated. Is there a need to twist threshholds?

    Hello JohnJY,

    Microsoft does not recommend the use of any type of fault-tolerant adapter or "Teaming" for the heartbeat. If you require redundancy for your heartbeat connection, use multiple network adapters set to Internal Communication Only and define their network priority in the Cluster configuration. Issues seen with early multi-ported network adapters, verify that your firmware and driver are at the most current revision if you use this technology.

    No protocols other than TCP/IP should be enabled on the heartbeat adapter. Verify that all others are disabled (including such items as Network Monitor).

    Considering the twist thresholds, it isn't mandatory after the Cluster threshold is updated. but it is advisable as a precaution to go for twist thresholds.

    This is two VMs located at two different sites away.
    only one NIC is configured. From your saying, the heartbeat network is needed in this cross subnet case,
    right?
