Microsoft Fabric Free Trial Option Not Available - All Settings Enabled

I’m having trouble activating the Microsoft Fabric Free Trial in Power BI. The “Trial” option in the workspace license settings is greyed out, even though everything appears to be correctly configured.

Here’s what I’ve confirmed so far:

I have a Power BI (Free) license assigned

I’m the admin of the workspace

The workspace is in Pro capacity (I am unable to change it to another option other than Premium)

Tenant settings in the Power BI Admin Portal are enabled:

  • “Users can try Microsoft Fabric”
  • “Users can try Power BI paid features”

Microsoft 365 Admin Center settings allow trial activation

I’ve never used a Fabric trial on this account

Still, I don’t see the option to start a Fabric trial in workspace settings

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Could this be a backend provisioning problem, or is there something else I can check?

Hello Jara,

Thanks for reaching out. Based on what you’ve described, it looks like your setup meets the requirements for starting a Microsoft Fabric Free Trial—but since the option is still greyed out, here are a few things to check:

  1. Workspace Capacity: If your workspace is set to Pro or Premium capacity, the trial option may not appear. Try creating a new workspace using shared capacity if available, or check for a Fabric trial banner on the Power BI Home page (https://app.powerbi.com).
  2. Region Availability: Microsoft Fabric is being rolled out gradually. If your tenant is in a region where it isn’t fully available yet, the trial option may not show up.
  3. Policies or Restrictions: Even if the tenant settings are enabled, other Microsoft 365 or Azure policies (like Conditional Access or security groups) might be blocking the trial from provisioning.

Best Regards

Marie
