Can't create Static Web App – region not allowed in Azure for Students

I'm using an Azure for Students subscription and trying to deploy a Static Web App. This service is only supported in a few regions (e.g., westeurope, eastus2), but my policy only allows regions like israelcentral, polandcentral, etc.

Is it possible to request an exemption or enable a supported region temporarily?

Thanks!

    Hi Eyal

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft Q&A.

There’s no direct option to request a temporary exemption to use a region that isn’t currently supported by Static Web Apps.

However, you can share your feedback through the Azure portal. It might not result in an immediate change, but Microsoft does consider user suggestions when planning future updates.

If you’d like, you can also share your feedback here to bring attention to your case:  Azure static web app · Community

And here's a helpful link to check which Azure services are available in which regions: Product Availability by Region

I am facing the same issue. What bothers me the most isn't the arbitrary decision to disallow Static Web Apps (although very annoying), but the fact that setting up the application fails at the very last step with an error message that tells me exactly nothing. I assume that Azure for Students is supposed to get me excited to use it in my future career? Well, it's doing the exact opposite for me right now. What a joke, I hope I never have to use this in my life.

    Workaround

It is still possible to create a regular web app, you can use this to serve your static site.

    1. Create a web app with Python as the runtime stack. I tested this with Python 3.14.
    2. In the newly created application navigate to Settings > Configuration.
Note: If you only see Configuration (preview) then click on it and click on 'Exit preview' on the top of the page. The preview version of this menu does not have the option we need (fantastic work again, Microsoft)
    3. Now in the Startup Command field enter the following: python -m http.server 80
    4. Now you can deploy your website. I do this by uploading a zip in the deployment center, but I assume any method works.
