    Hello,

Only Surface PCs can directly registered with their serial number in the Microsoft account.

Unknown devices will appear on their own when logged into your PC with your Microsoft account.

This feature has been buggy for some time, however, and can cause the PC to sometimes appear in your Microsoft account or disappear again.

I can't say when the problem will be fixed.

    Greetings

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

For registering your device to your Microsoft account, you actually don’t need to provide a serial number. Microsoft links your Windows license to your Microsoft account and your hardware ID automatically once you're signed in and Windows is activated.

You don’t need to enter the Activation ID, Installation ID, or any of the values shown with slmgr /dlv either, those are more for troubleshooting activation issues.

If you're already signed into your Microsoft account and Windows shows as activated under Settings > System > Activation, then you’re all set! Your PC will already be associated with your account, and you can even view it at https://account.microsoft.com/devices

Let me know if you were trying to do something specific like transfer a license or set up recovery, happy to walk you through it.

Or should you need further information please let me know.

    Regards,
