At our site, we have two PCs, PC-1 and PC-2, both of which have Microsoft Office 2021 installed. Additionally, we maintain a spare PC for the purpose of restoring image backups in the event of a system failure.

Recently, one of the primary PCs experienced a crash, and we have successfully restored its image backup to the spare PC. However, upon launching MS Office on the spare PC, it is prompting for login to activate the license, which requires an internet connection.

As per Cybersecurity protocols at site, internet access is strictly restricted on all machines. Therefore, we are unable to complete the activation process online.

We kindly request your assistance in providing a solution for activating MS Office 2021 offline on the spare PC (without an active internet connection to this PC), in compliance with our security policies.

Thanks for the clear details.

Since your site restricts internet access and you’re using image backups, Office 2021 is asking for reactivation because the hardware signature changed. As workaround please go to spare PC, open any Office app like Word. When prompted for activation, choose “I want to activate the software by telephone.” You’ll see an installation ID call the Microsoft activation center use a phone that has access. Follow the prompts and enter the confirmation ID they give you into the PC. This method doesn't require internet and works well in environments like yours. Just make sure you're using a valid volume or retail license that allows this type of activation.
