Is Microsoft at least working on a fix for their oversight of the discontinuation of Windows Mixed Reality (WMR)? Alot of people spent lots of money on VR equipment that is now worthless, the least you could do is reinstate the older version in an upcoming update, so you don't end up with a Rebellon against Microsoft !

Hello Jesse. Windows Mixed Reality (WMR) has been fully deprecated by Microsoft and confirmed for removal from all future Windows versions, starting with the Windows 11 24H2 release. This means that all WMR headsets Mixed Reality devices, etc. will no longer function on newer Windows builds. Microsoft currently has no development efforts to remedy or to return the WMR platform, nor are there plans to restore WMR support in subsequent Windows releases. All resources are being pushed to mixed-reality partnerships that convert into XR experiences (e.g. the partnership with Meta over immersive VR for Windows 11).

The users who are still operating Windows 11 version 23H2 or lower can continue using an WMR-headset until November 1st, 2026, when official support ends, at which point access to the Mixed Reality Portal app and SteamVR integration will no longer be available. It has been stated that "this change has no impact on HoloLens devices"1.

If you want to continue using a WMR headset, please do not upgrade to Windows 11 24H2, or at least consider isolating your device that has its VR setup with a Windows version that is no longer available.

Here's the reference: Microsoft to end Windows Mixed Reality support on November 1, 2026
