How do I navigate to Teams and Channels?

They used to appear under my chat contacts, but have since disappeared, and there are no options in settings or filters to restore the view per older online tutorials

    Hi @CM,

Thanks again for your patience and for pointing out the missing responses earlier. I want to confirm that the issue you're experiencing with the missing Teams tab and unreliable Channels visibility is part of a known incident affecting Microsoft Teams desktop users.

Microsoft has acknowledged this issue under Incident ID: TM1139221. It stems from a configuration change error that disrupted the combined Chat and Channel view in the Teams UI. As a result:

    • The Teams tab may disappear or become unresponsive.
    • Channels may only appear briefly or not at all under Chat.
    • The layout toggle to separate Chats and Channels may be missing.

On the other hand, there still are some workarounds that you could try:

1/ Quickly access Settings: If the layout toggle appears briefly, go to Settings > Chats and Channels and choose separate.

    User's image

2/ Clear Teams Cache: Navigate to %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams and delete the contents (if the folder exists).

3/ Use Web Client: The issue does not affect the browser version of Teams.

As of August 22, 2025, Microsoft has rolled back the configuration change, and recovery has been confirmed for impacted users. However, some users may still experience residual glitches until the fix fully propagates.

    • You can pin the Teams tab if it reappears by right-clicking it in the left-hand rail.
    • Use Search to jump directly to Channels or documents.
    • If the issue persists, consider reinstalling Teams or reporting it via Settings > Feedback > Report a problem.

Sorry again for the disadvantages. Please let me know if the issue continues or if you need any further assistance. I’m here to support you.

    Hi,

Same happened to me after 19th of August... If I restart MS Teams, the channels are visible FOR a WHILE, then I can see only the Pinned & Recent chats...

It`s quite annoying to do 4-5 restarts per day..

    Hi @CM,

Thank you for the detailed follow-up.

I'm glad to hear that restarting Teams resolved the visibility issue for Channels under Chat. That kind of behavior can sometimes result from temporary UI glitches or caching problems, especially after updates or prolonged use.

To your question about dedicating a tab or managing visibility:

    • Normally, the Teams tab should appear in the left-hand navigation bar. If it’s missing or unresponsive (as you described), it may be due to a UI rendering issue. Restarting the app as you did is often the quickest fix.
    • You can customize the left-hand rail by:
      1. Clicking the “…” (More apps) at the bottom of the rail.
      2. Right-clicking on Teams and selecting “Pin” to keep it visible.
      3. Rearranging icons by dragging them into your preferred order.
    • While you can’t create a separate tab just for Channels within Chat, you can:
      • Use the Teams tab to navigate directly to Channels.
      • Pin frequently used Channels for quick access.
      • Use Search to jump to specific documents or conversations within Channels.

Microsoft Teams is actively updated, and occasional hiccups can happen. If this issue recurs frequently, clearing the Teams cache or reinstalling the app may help. Also, keeping the app updated ensures you benefit from the latest fixes.

Hope my information helps. Please don't hesitate to reach out again for further assistance.

    Hi @CM,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft Q&A Community. We're happy to help you with your concern.

I understand you're having trouble seeing Teams and Channels within the Chat section of Microsoft Teams, where they previously appeared under your contacts.

To help troubleshoot this effectively, could you clarify a few things:

    1. Are you using the desktop app, web version, or mobile app of Teams? Sometimes visibility differs across platforms.
    2. Have you recently changed your Teams layout or settings? For example, switching from the default layout to the new “Compact” or “Grid” view can affect what’s shown.
    3. Are you still a member of the Teams and Channels that disappeared? If you were removed or if the Team was archived, it might no longer appear.
    4. Do you see the Teams tab in the left-hand navigation bar? If not, it might be hidden or collapsed.
    5. Have you tried signing out and back in, or clearing the Teams cache? This can often resolve display issues.

Once I have a bit more detail, I’ll be able to guide you through the right steps to restore visibility or confirm if the behavior is expected based on recent updates.

    Looking forward to your reply.
