A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Hello Sanjeev De Gannes, Thanks for reaching out on Microsoft Q&A, and we appreciate your patience while we looked into this.
From your description, you’re stuck in what we call a “sign-in loop”. After entering your password, the system asks for a code from Microsoft Authenticator, but in order to add the account to Authenticator, it again asks you to sign in which repeats the same loop.
Next steps / solutions:
- Check if you still have your old phone or backup available.
- If yes, you can restore accounts from Authenticator’s cloud backup. Docs: Recover accounts in Microsoft Authenticator app
- See if any alternate MFA methods (SMS, phone call, security key) were set up.
- If available, use those to sign in and re-register Authenticator. Docs: Sign in with backup verification methods
- If no backup or alternate method is available, contact your IT admin.
- An Azure AD administrator can reset your MFA registration so you can enroll the Authenticator app again. Docs: Manage user authentication methods (reset MFA)
- If you are the only admin and locked out:
- Follow the Azure AD Global Administrator recovery process.
Hope this helps you move forward. If you continue to face the loop and no backup options are available, please reach out to your organization’s administrator or open a Microsoft support ticket for further assistance. Thank you!
