Why does Microsoft pop up an "open file - security warning" message when I open any Microsoft program?

    Hi, I am an Independent Advisor, and welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

    I understand you are getting a pop-up "open file - security warning" every time you open a Microsoft program.

    Please follow the steps below to get this fixed.

    Go to the Start Menu and type in Internet Options

    Click on the Security Tab and click on the Custom Level button.

    Another window will pop up, scroll down, and look for Launching applications and unsafe files, choose Enable (not secure), click OK, and click Apply.

    Restart the machine and test for functionality.

    That stopped it, thank you, but doesn't tell me why it happened and now puts my computer at greater risk. Can you help?
