SCSM 2012 R2 - Restore DB to a new instance of SCSM (Same version, same patchlevel)

We have an Issue with an custom wizard for OSDeploy and it is in an productive environment. We have an additional SCSM 2012 R2 server for development purposes but there we cannot replicate the error.

Our version is: 7.5.3079.768 (2012 R2 CU14)

My question now is: Has anyone ever restored a DB from an productive environment to a new server/management group just to debug an issue, even when the server name is not the same? Or do I have to setup an additional server to the productive environment and management group?

I would recommend to create a new test environment based on the existing productive environment as described here:
