Trusted Signing identity verification failed, provided documents to prove business is older than 3 years. Not sure what Azure is looking for.

I've been having a difficult time with the verification process for trusted signing. After my initial submission, I was requested to provide additional documents for the business.

I provided my certificate of formation and then was told the document needed to be dated within the past 12 months, which does not make sense as it is a certificate of formation to prove the business is older than 3 years.

So I then provided the current business status from the government website and included the URL as instructed, but this was rejected. I tried to ask through the submission if a certificate of good standing would suffice, but I believe the process is mostly automated, so I did not hear back about that. Finally, my verification request was marked failed.

I just want to know what documents will suffice for this process. Thank you.

    Hi ,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Azure trusted signing has very strict eligibility and documentation rules that you cannot bypass. To qualify, your business must be based in the US or Canada and must have been in operation for at least three years. Even if you meet these requirements, all documents you submit must be issued within the past 12 mths and show a validity period of at least two more months. Examples of acceptable documents include recent business registration records, certificates of good standing, or domain ownership proofs that match your company details exactly. Older certificates, like your original formation document, will be rejected because they do not meet the “recently issued” requirement. If your business is outside the US or Canada, or does not meet the three-year threshold, the verification process will fail automatically, and there is no exception or manual override. In that case, you will need to wait until microsoft expands eligibility in future updates.
