How to fix Error code 10 on Realtek AUdio Device

Realtek Audio not working and Device manager reports

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)

The policy object does not exist when it should"

How can I fix this issue?

    Open the Settings App.

    Go to System - Troubleshoot - Other Troubleshooters.

    Run the Audio Troubleshooter from there, to see if that can find and fix the problem.

    If that process does not resolve the problem, go to the support page for your PC on the manufacturers website, then from there, download and re-install (not update) the version of Realtek HD Audio drivers they provide.

    I went out to RealTek's page and downloaded what they had in their R283 package of drivers and CODECs for Windows 7,8,8.1, and 10. The file is a whopping 259 MB, so it took a LONG time to download. But, after I installed those older drivers, all works well: User's image
