Outlook desktop emails - cursor jumps to bottom when clicking back into email

I use New Outlook desktop for writing emails, and I have it set up to pop out the email window when I am writing new or replying to an email thread. If I start the email/reply, then click somewhere outside of the email window, then click back in, my cursor jumps to the very bottom of the email. This is especially frustrating when it is a reply to a very long email thread. Why is this happening and how can I fix it? Do not suggest "use the web version" or "write your emails in the reader pane". I want this thing to work like it had always worked in the past. Jumping to the bottom of the email serves zero purpose.
