Hi Nick Stultz
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Platform. Thank you for reaching out & hope you are doing well.
Please see the details below for more information.
Here the user session hosts, and the client’s public IP must be in Azure regions where ShortPath is supported. Ensuring the session hosts’ subnet has no UDRs blocking Microsoft-managed ShortPath service tags (AzureVirtualDesktopShortPath). ShortPath uses the Azure Virtual WAN infrastructure and Virtual WAN must have an AzureVirtualDesktopHub configured.
Allowing outbound UDP 4172 (RDP) and TCP 3389 to Internet and Virtual WAN prefixes. Also allowing outbound HTTPS 443 for control plan.
Also ensuring windows defender Firewall allows UDP 4172 and any custom ShortPath ports (e.g., 3391).
To verify DNS Resolution and MTU run:
- nslookup rdp.shortpath.azure.com
- ping rdp.shortpath.azure.com
In the Azure portal, under Virtual WAN → Hubs, verify the ShortPath status shows “Connected” and check health events.
Also ensure irtual WAN hubs are in two zones for resilience.
